Pokemon3D, THE greatest free Poke game found online?

This new Pokemon free game is called Pokemon3D. Pokémon3D is a re-invention of the classic Pokémon Gold and Silver games by Nintendo and was chosen by the developer (who is still in high school i think) because these were the first real Pokemon games he played and I guess loved them because of that .
As always you need to be the top Pokemon trainer of all time but you do this all in realtime 3D – you go around the grasslands and capture, battle and defeat wild Pokemon, you can also walk around towns collecting items and Pokemon just like a real Pokemon game. The best part, apart from the great 3D and that this Pokemon game is free, is that you can play with a friend in LAN co-op, it would be great if this part could be completely online so you could play against friends around the world. It says the game is currently under development and features are added frequently so maybe this will be an option one day.

It’s true, Pokémon3D does remind me of Minecraft because of the cool pixelated style but that is tpart of the charm of it. You can look around freely like all 3D games but just like real, official Pokemon games you can only move about straight forward, straight back, straight to the sides.

This free game looks like it is updated almost weekly. The latest version out at the moment is Pokémon3D v0.23 and it contains a few new features. They list them as…
• Resizeable game window
• English and German Language selection (I guess more languages are planned for later)
• Content packs (Content packs are basically texture packs, you can replace the original textures with your own.)
• Daycare system ( That’s where you can drop of Pokemon that you have captured to be raised in the care of other people.)
• New moves (recoil moves, transform and others)
• Gate map between Ilex Forest and Route 34
• Autosave (If you quit to the menu, save the game or enter a wild Pokémon battle, the game autosaves your current save state.)
• Map is redone
• Updated the Trainer AI
This is a windows only game, sorry any Mac fans but you miss out.
The new version is obtainable in the launcher and they have only just updated that a few days ago. The new launcher has a number of new functions and settings and you will need it if you want the newer versions of the free game.
I am sure there is more to talk about, hopefully the developer can comment here and add a little more.

Pokemonium the new Pokenet free MMO

It’s been a while since I reviewed a free Pokemon MMO game, and it seems a few have closed down. This new game is called Pokemonium and it is looking pretty good I must say. The developers of Pokemonium have taken the programming code of an older game called Pokenet and have re-coded and developing it to provide a top notch online Pokémon game. 
It looks like the game is still being worked on but you can download the Beta versions and they are releasing new versions fairly regularly so try it seeing it is free to download and play. Now it seems the old Pokenet game wasn't a great game but that was a few years ago, this should be better. I hope.
I have just read that you can get Pokemonium MMO to work on Apple Mac OSX. This is straight from Pokemoniums site. The root cause of Pokemonium not working on OSX is because only the native libraries for Windows are included in the download. To get this operational on OSX, you must download the native libraries and put them in the correct folder. You can get the files from the complete Slick distribution here: http://slick.cokeandcode.com/downloads/slick.zip . After you have downloaded and unzipped the archive, the files you want are found inside lib/natives-mac.jar . Move the files that it contains into the lib/natives folder of Pokemonium. You also need the updated lwjgl.jar file from the Slick.zip and move this file from Slicks lib folder to Pokemonium's lib folder. Move Pokemonium.sh from the bin folder of Pokemonium to the root folder. You will be using this shell script to run the game. To run the game, open up terminal and navigate to the root folder of Pokemonium. Type "sh pokemonium.sh" (without quotes) and press enter to play. Enjoy the free Pokemon game. A similar method would most likely get Pokemonium working on Linux.
I know, not easy but at least they have given full instructions on how to do it. A little techy info, the game is coded in Java and I have just read that Apple Mac computers will no longer have Java so I am not sure if it will run on them but probably you can download the Java components and you will be fine. Maybe I am a big goof and don’t know anything though.
Any, apart for the OSX part , the free game running on Windows is fine, give it a go and tell me what you think please.

Free Online Pokemon Game - Pokemon Volcano

I have reviewed Pokemon Volcano before but that was a long time ago, I thought it would be a good idea to revisit this free Pokemon MMORPG and see how it is travelling. This free Pokemon Volcano is pretty good and one great idea is it doesn’t need for you to download anything, no downloading and installing a program – the pokemon game is completely run in a browser window. So just register at the site and then you can start playing.

As usual, you start with one starter Pokemon and off you go trying to capture new Pokemon and train up to be your ultimate Pokemon team so you can win Gym medals and from that you take your chance trying to defeat a gym leader. I am not that good a player but they say that if you get to a certain level of Pokemon Trainer you get to be able to enter an exclusive area called Pokemon Safary Park and it is meant to have new , unseen Pokemon to battle and capture. I have no idea if this is still valid or not as I can’t find any info on Safary Park on the site or in the forums.

Anyway, about the game itself, well of course it is free otherwise I wouldn’t be reviewing it. The gameplay itself is pretty fast, moving around the maps is very good, some other games it seems like every time you move your trainer you need to wait for the screen to refresh – not so with this free online pokemon game. As with all the online pokemon mmorpgs you get to battle other trainers live, online – this is what makes these games great and the reason, I guess, that most people play – that is why I do anyway. It has chat system as well but I never tried it out.

The Pokemon available are all the original Pokemon plus shiny, dark and metal Pokemon as well and they say they are developing some completely new Pokemon which would be interesting. If you need a hint to find the legendary Pokemon in Rock Town – try Regirock, in a cave area, at the right side of the cave, beside the stone in the cave.

Here are some other hints and tips for Pokemon Volcano. I haven’t tried any so can only guess that they work.
Get Manaphy:
- Get all the gym badges and then go in the grass or the water for a while until you find Manaphy.
Easter Egg - find Arboks in the wild:
- In the wild you have about a 15% chance to see an Arbok even at level 1.
Increase Pokemon EXP quickly:
- First go to Renato then search for Pokemon near grain and you will always fight a Diglet that has very low life but give a lot of EXP, thanks to it my Torterra is level 80 and my Charizard is level 79.

Free Online Pokemon Games - Pokemon-Area

This free Pokemon online game that I am reviewing is called Pokemon-Area. It is a pretty good game to play and has all the Pokemon MMORPG components you would like.
It look like any of the other games, I guess, just like a free version of a DS or GBA game. The graphics are not really similar to these cart games. It has the same style but not the same quality. I think the graphics lets it down a lot - have a look at the battle screen - the Pokemon themselves are just too small. Maps are a little better I guess.
But of course it's an online play, where you not just play against other Pokemon but online players around the world. This where all the fun is - getting to battle against some other trainer that is a real person and not a computer. I didn't get to try this out as at the time it seems there was no-one else online - maybe it was because of the time-zone I am in in fact I am sure I didn't get to try every option and area in this game.
It looks to be a fairly popular game with lots of members and seems to be updated pretty often which is an important things to note with a free Pokemon Online game. Lots of options makes it really good but graphics let it down. The whole site works well and sign on was a breeze.

What is the best free online pokemon game?

I seem to get a lot of comments asking "what's the best free online Pokemon game", "what's a great online Pokemon game", "what online Pokemon MMORPG is the best to play" ... stuff like that.
To be honest I have played a whole heap of them and they are are kind of the same, they most be or they would not be a Pokemon game. What sets the good games and bad games apart is the small things that make a huge difference - things like speed of the site, how often the servers are offline, how many members play. Like all games, the littles things matter.

The best of the best free online Pokemon was / is Pokemon Crater
But there are plenty of others to try out, just go through this site and I am sure you will find one.

Some Pokemon games have not been updated for ages but are still playable other games are updated but are not quite good enough still. I know the games are free and made by fans but you still want one that is fun to play, fast, and has enough online players to play against. Enjoy.

Pokemon Creed - free online Pokemon game

A quick review of another free Pokemon game. This one is called Pokemon Creed.
This game doesn't need any downloads like some of these free ones do, it is completely playable in your browser. Sign up was simple, it just took a few moments and I was done, looking at the player list it has almost 500 members signed up - but when I played there was only two only, one being me. That doesn't seem very good if there are not many players online.

The graphics for the game are OK I guess. Maps are typical gameboy graphic style, the Waterfall, Wilderness Volcano and Palm Beach maps look pretty good. The battle screen is a bit of a let down. The Pokemon are just too small, it would be nice to have them a bit bigger (actually a lot bigger) and a little animation in the sprite would be a nice touch as well.

The Pokemon battle system itself works well, though. It is just like a proper Nintendo game and that's good isn't it? Of course you can battle random Pokemon that you encounter plus NPC characters as well as other players that are online. And speaking of the types of Pokemon you can find , there arenot just the normal and shiny varieties but Luminous, Shadow, Cursed, Rainbow and Golden.

The site has player rankings (actually they have rankings for just about everything), forums and a chatroom to talk to other players. There are markets and trade area to buy and sell Pokemon although I never tried that part out so I don't know how well it works. In the top corner it says One Day Promo and looks like you can get a free rare Pokemon, so I suppose they do random things like that to keep the excitement in the game and make it a bit different from other sites.

Online Pokemon Game - Pokemon Omega

Another free online Pokemon game is called Pokemon Omega - play it whenever you want, just sign up for an account. Once you have an account, you just login to site whenever you feel like playing a game. You start the game, like most of these types of free Pokemon games, by choosing a starter Pokemon and then go exploring the worlds hoping to catch more.
This game is that much different to other online games like Pokemon Crater, the layout and game play is pretty good and it's web based so no download is needed. The site layout is fairly good giving you easy access to all areas you want to use. And the trading system has been well thought of and works just as I like.
They say they are using official Pokemon game data, well maybe but don't think it is any way an official game by Nintendo. Pokemon Omega matches up not just the Pokemon types but also Stats to make the battles even better. This means that if you really are into Pokemon online games, and who isn't :), leveling up, battling and overall gameplay is not just a quicktime thing but a full on game.
They also say they have used Ajax style programming to make the game faster and it does seem so. It acts a lot faster than a lot of other games I have played - I don't have to wait for the screen to refresh every time I take a step in the map areas - a real pain on other games.
The game designer seem to have a good ranking system in place. Although I couldn't really tell, they say it is based on Trainer Points that you get by winning battles, completing certain achievement and things like that. The battles themselves will have a bit of animation, nothing like the battle animation in Wii Pokemon Battle - don't expect that, and the world map acts a little like world maps in real games - not bad at all. At the moment the game is in early Beta but still not a bad effort, not many people seem to be online, maybe that will change!
